Another week starts and finished and it always feels like some kind of a race. Unfortunately, on most occasions we tend to focus on the negative things instead of looking around us and find the little things that make us feel happy.
Few years ago, I worked in a manufacturing company and the company was facing difficult times and the team moral was down. After a long day at work I arrived home and assisted my daughter with her homework. She had an assignment about how a small act of kindness can mean a lot and can change people behaviours. The next morning I arrived to work with a different approach and a big box full with smiley stickers. I went to each team member and gave him / her a sticker and said “when someone smiles at you, you smile back”. Very quickly, the team responded and everyone was starting to talk about the stickers and become more cheerful. Quickly after we all received our stickers the moral improved and the smiley stickers become a thing.
Sometimes we forget that in a small act of kindness and by looking at the little things that make us and others happy we are able to change the company culture and moral which leads to improvements in productivity and performance.
Few years after the Stickers Day, I met one of my previous colleagues and he told me that he still has the smiley sticker on his desk, a little reminder to smile and the world will smile back at you.
